Curb Your Dog? Nope, Curb Your Humans at Cameron Beach!

Going to the beach early 6:30 am is a ritual. My dogs - Zak and Zoe and I look forward to it.  We get back home shortly after 9 am since dogs are not allowed after 9 am.

Many mornings I always find some kind of debris left from the night before and I place it all in an extra bag I carry with me.

This morning being Sunday was particularly disturbing, as at the edge of beautiful Mecox bay close to the ocean there was in an area 12 empty beer bottles, the carton they came in, empty white Styrofoam containers, and 2 large plastic containers that had a lot of sushi with all the plastic condiments, plastic cups, dirty paper towels, and a dirty child diaper etc....

There was a large supermarket bag left so I filled the bag plus my own bag and brought them to the container at the Cameron beach parking lot.

They want to ban dogs from the beach!!!!! Let's rethink that!

Right by the edge of the ocean there were large boxes which had contained huge fireworks.  I could not lift them but some town workers who were removing a fence took them at my suggesting it.

This was one area of one beach.

Is there any consciousness in people who leave their trash behind.........

Citizens on patrol in Southampton

About 6 yrs ago, my husband who is a volunteer fireman, while camping at Coopers Beach attending the Southampton muster.
This little old lady with her VW bug was turning around in the parking lot. She hit a truck, hit the same truck again in her attempt to turn around and was about to leave the parking lot. So a bunch of us decided to stand in front of her car so she couldn't leave.

She told us that "she was late for her tennis lesson" and wanted to leave.

We just waited for the police to arrive and the owner of the truck to arrive as we stood in front of her car so she couldn't leave!

So that was my "Rude in the Hamptons" Story

Watch out for land mines at Main Beach

It's come to our attention that some really rude behavior is happening down at Main Beach.

Yes, the Main Beach that's the number four best beach in America.

Apparently there are people walking their dogs in the early morning and late evening and not cleaning up after them. That leaves everyone else to fend for themselves.

We're wondering if any solid citizens could go and take some photos or video of this happening and we'll post them here. Let's leverage public shame as a tool against the illegal dumpers.

This is how we do it

It's not just out-of-town a**holes who make you wonder...

We enjoy the ocean beach by Mecox Bay and drove to the end of Flying Point Road when we saw an open space and parked.

Some a**hole came running over screaming "that's ours, we've been waiting for that space!"

Grandma (who was driving her red mini) said, "What do you mean?"

A**hole said, "We've lived here ten years and that's how we do it."

Grandma said, "I've lived here 25 years and never heard of that."

The nerve of some people!

Does buying an Escalade (or such) include rights over other people, or just the right to be an a**hole (and greedy gas guzzler)?

Lifeguards help pigs in addition to saving people in East Hampton

This just happened this morning at my favorite beach in East Hampton.

I was down at the beach for an early morning walk, then went over to the outdoor shower to rinse myself off.

In front of me was a man, who was locked in the shower stall with his small and very hairy dog, and he proceeded to spend 15 minutes in there - washing and de-fleaing his dog!!! He pulled clump after clump of thick, smelly dog fur and just threw it on the floor of the shower, including covering the drain with the thick balls of fur mottled with fleas.

After they finally emerged, I went into the shower, picked up a clump of the wet dog fur and shouted over to the man "hey dude, you forgot something in here!"

I walked over and tried to hand him the clump of dog fur, and he looked horrified and refused to take it and asked me what MY problem was!

I said the problem was actually his, because he was using a shower made for people to rinse off from the beach, not dogs, and that he left the shower in disgraceful condition.

All he did was shrug and say that "someone will come & clean it up, they do every day" - and when I asked who he thought "they" were, he said "the Lifeguards, right?"

I thought the lifeguards were there to save lives and provide emergency assistance, but according to this douchebag Lifeguards are really there to clean the showers after pigs like him use it

Funeral Pyres On The Beach and Squatters

My beef is the folks who feel it is OK to sit on top of you and your things at the beach.

I recently found a nice "hole" where I would not be too close to the other beachgoers. Not 5 minutes later a family arrived and set up their chairs right in front of me.

They were so close that one of their children actually commented, "Mom, aren't we too close to these people?" Of course the mom said, "No!" and sat down.

But even worse was the evening I was at the beach enjoying sandwiches and salads with my husband when a large family - possibly a reunion - arrived. They did set up their chairs, etc, a decent distance away, but then sent one of the boys to dig a hole for a beach fire. The child started digging about 3 feet behind my chair.

When his mom came over to check out his work - he hadn't done much yet - and tell him dinner was ready, I asked them to please dig a little further away.

Of course I got another "No!"

Not too long after, they actually lit that fire just a few feet from my chair.

What is wrong with people?

Montauk Monster Returns

At our beach, near Ditch (the public beach) throwing a stick in the surf for our lab to go fetch and a rude dog and its owner walk by and the little rat kept barking, "YAP-YAP-YAP" and nipping at my dogs legs.

Oh course the lab only has eyes for the stick and ignored him.

A beautiful day and I have to listen to this ugl...y noise and avoid this excuse for a dog.

The owner kept walking down the beach and saw what her dog was doing, but did nothing!

Finally after the dog kept coming back to nip and YAP some more, I waved my arms and said, "Shoo,  GET!"

She comes back and says, "don't hit my dog with that stick"

"Really! I'm just trying to teach him some manners... "

She says "he's just trying to be social."

She really thought her dog biting and YAAPing was social behavior?????

Then she walks off and shoots me the bird like we're on the highway... where do these aggressive people come from???

Royal Pains In My Butt

Don’t bother coming out to the Hamptons for Mother’s day, the beach is closed. At least it was today for the USA Networks production Royal Pains.

And what a pain it is. At the End of Ocean Rd. in Bridgehampton I was turned away from an evening walk on the beach.

“WE ARE LOCKED DOWN!” a lady yelped at me with authority as I walked to towards the sand. Apparently this lingo should mean something to me. She saw the confused look on my face,

“Oh, you are not with us”

“ah, no maam.” I replied timidly.

"Well you can't go there, THE BEACH IS CLOSED!”

Well I’ll be darned.

I didn’t think they could close the beach.

Ocean Cellphone Tip

I'm sitting on the beach in Montauk at Gurney's Inn and along comes a woman on her cell phone. She proceeds to stand in front of me blocking my view of the ocean. I understand the beach is free and people can sit and go where they please.

What was so moronic about all of this is she starts yelling into her phone, "I can't hear you, the waves are too loud!"

Here's an idea, walk away from the ocean you citidiot!

Beware of Ocean Beach Sidlers

I was reading a story from Summer 07 called Down in Front! and it reminded me of when my family and I went to the ocean one day.

We always go early because there are usually at least 15 or 20 of our friends and family.

We go early because there are a lot of kids and we want to sit by the water.

We had all of our stuff out and since there are so many of us we try and take up as little room as possible.

At this point pretty much the whole ocean is empty and these people come and sit right next to us and then walk through all of our stuff and "like" bump into us.

Giving us dirty looks because we had little kids with us.

Why did they have to pick there they had the whole beach to pick from?

May they be bitten by an army of ants

My family and a large group of our friends made our 3rd annual trip to Montauk (I know, not exactly the Hamptons) and observed some less than considerate behavior.

We were staying at the Royal Atlantic and watched a group of roughly 15 people pick up hotel lounge chairs, and like a well orchestrated army of ants, transport them down to the beach on their backs, in their arms , etc.

As they clogged up the entrance to the beach they could be heard commenting, "We're probably not supposed to bring these down to the beach but I saw some down here yesterday and they were back by the pool this morning."

Later on, and as I expected, most of the group marched back up to the hotel and left their Great Wall of Chairs on the beach. While a few members of the group lingered on the beach nearby, they watched two staff members make about 15 trips back and forth to the beach in 90 degree plus heat and humidity (as told to me by one of the women in my group that happened to be on her balcony overlooking the beach).

Aggressive territorial behavior at Indian Wells

My wife and I were enjoying a day at Indian Wells last summer. After walking down to the left of the ABA beach club we sat down with about a ten foot buffer zone around our two chairs and umbrella. We weren't on waterfront beach property about three rows back from the shoreline.

At someone point a few people showed up and sat down in our buffer zone. They were loud and broke out some beer from their cooler.

Next thing we know about ten other people show up. They proceeded to wedge themselves into the space around us.

At one point a woman sitting behind my wife started moving my wife's beach chair with her feet. She called her out on it. To this she said, "Sorry."

I headed down for a dunk in the ocean. I came back and some toolbox was now sitting on one of our towels proceeding to try and hit on my wife. She sent him packing, but he didn't get off the towel. That changed when I returned.

Once there were six now there are three

This is personal post from me, The Editor, regarding rude corporate behavior on the Amagansett beaches.

On June 2nd a Ralph Lauren cologne related entity setup for a photo shoot on an Amagansett beach. On this same beach there also happened to be 6 pairs of Piping Plovers nesting.

Piping Plovers are a protected species. There are fences around their nesting areas, fireworks are canceled and rescheduled to avoid bothering them. Ralph Lauren proceeded to setup extremely close to the birds' nesting areas with a large tent structure.

Worse than that though, six Land Rovers were seen speeding up and down the beach. Newspaper articles quote that they were doing 50 miles per hour.

Irregardless of whether they really were going 50, the speed limit on the beaches is 15 miles per hour.

There was also a lack of required permits- no permit for the beach and no permit for filming. They did have a fire permit for the tent. (Source: East Hampton Star)

To top it off, there are now apparently only three pairs left.  The aggressive driving and tent structures scared off the other three.

Locals are upset, the Town Trustees want action taken against Ralph Lauren. The federal and state officials don't seem to want to do ANYTHING.

Even if the state and federal governments don't do a thing, Ralph Lauren should repent and give a sizable donation to one of the many nature preservation organizations on the East End.

If you want send an email to their customer service department and let them know your thoughts - CustomerAssistance@RalphLauren.com

Mommy what does bullcrap mean?

A woman bellowing loud enough into her cell phone to be heard from the Cooper's Beach overpriced hot dog stand all the way down to the lifeguard stand. This - the day before July 4th - today.

"No you SOB -- I told you I was picking the kids up tonight for the birthday party! "That's Bullcrap - yes she actually said bullcrap -- not the saltier version of the word - maybe just trying to be polite with the hoards of children around her listening to her post-marital bloviating

She goes on and on on what a lowlife, bottom dwelling scum her ex husband is - screeching at the top of her lungs - actually bumps into and nearly knocks over someone else's child on the way to the parking lot to continue her screech-fest (very considerate) ..and didn't stop talking as she ignored the child she bumped.

Do people - especially Southamptonites - have a clue they can be overheard on their cell phone. Other overheard LOUD cell phone conversations on the beach -- people discussing salaries - multimillion dollar confidential deals -- talking trash about easily recognizable people. All thinking they are in the privacy of their home.

Astonished on Coopers....

Down in front!

I went to Southampton Beach with my husband, my 2 children, my girlfriend, her 3 children and 4 other friends (twelve people in all). The beach was crowded that day so we looked for a spot just passed the life guard, but close enough to them. There was a women sitting further back on the beach. We started to set up our area closer to the water as we had 1 small child with us. The woman kept staring at me so I finally ask her why. She replies "Your blocking my view". I didn't know you can own a view on the beach.

It takes a village...but not THIS village!!!

When leaving the beach one sunny weekend afternoon, I saw a toddler girl traveling the width of the beach, headed with determination toward the parking lot. It became apparent that no adult was with or watching her.

Couple A was leaving the beach at the same time. They noticed the girl, as well. I commented that perhaps the girl was headed toward couple B in the parking lot...'no', couple A said, 'They're friends of ours and the child doesn't belong to them.'

At this point, couple B hollers to couple A: 'forget it. She's not your responsibility...'

And couple A proceeded to the parking lot.

I didn't dare pick up the toddler to prevent her from wandering all the way up to Hill Street. Instead, I dropped my arms full of beach 'stuff,' ran down to water's edge, described the child to several groups sprawled on blankets...

Finally, one group of 40-something mommies said 'my god, SUSIE, that's YOUR daughter!!!' At this, mom sprang to her feet and caught up with the child who was now in the parking lot.

Not a word of thanks to me, of course. When I said THANK YOU to the mom as she loaded the girl into the car, she said (get ready, dear reader...): "Three nannies for three kids and this is what happens. They're fired.'

What about mom's responsibility????

Sincerely,

Main Beach Plots For Sale

Editor’s note: This story blows my mind.

My husband and I went to Main Beach in East Hampton last week. My husband parked the car and I walked down to the ocean to setup my chair. I sat down and along comes a young woman with young children and a nanny who asked me, “How long are you staying at the beach?”

“A few hours I think.”

The young woman responds, “Well then would you mind moving because this is the place where my children like to play and I like to sit.”

I was so stunned by this request, I actually moved.

As soon as I did I realized not to mention this to my husband because he would have been furious at this family.

How can anyone feel so entitled to actually feel they own a spot on the beach?

This wasn’t any special location on the beach and the beach was not crowded.
